WAKULLA GRIDIRON CLUB UPDATE - 5/27/2026

After many years of operating independently, openly, and collaboratively with the support of prior school administrations, the Wakulla Gridiron Club has been informed the Gridiron will no longer be permitted to independently coordinate reserved seating, parking passes, field signage, and sponsorship activities for WHS Football in the manner it has for decades.

At the center of the disagreement is a differing interpretation regarding whether the Gridiron should continue independently managing the funds generated through these longstanding activities - as has historically been the case - or whether the Gridiron should simply assist in coordinating the work while all funds are instead centralized and controlled through school-managed accounts.

The Gridiron believes this distinction matters.

For decades, the independent Gridiron model allowed volunteers to manage these activities without taxpayer expense while directing 100% of these funds back into the football program. The Gridiron believes this independence strengthened community trust, encouraged volunteer involvement, and ensured sponsors and supporters had confidence their contributions directly benefited the program. Throughout its history, Gridiron funds and financial activities have always been transparent and available to both the public and school administration, and there has never been any instance of misuse of funds by the Gridiron.

The Gridiron also believes that asking community volunteers to continue doing the same work while removing the Gridiron’s longstanding independent management structure fundamentally changes the nature and spirit of what independent booster organizations were created to do.

Moving forward, individuals interested in purchasing reserved seats, parking passes, field signs, or sponsorship packages for Wakulla Football should contact the Wakulla County School District directly regarding availability and future coordination of those activities.

While the Gridiron respectfully believes the longstanding independent model has best served the community, taxpayers, and student athletes, the Gridiron encourages the community to continue supporting WHS football and the school administration under the new structure moving forward.

If the opportunity ever arises for the Gridiron to once again operate in the independent manner it has historically, the Club and its volunteers would gladly step back in to help serve the program, school, and community.

Until then, the Gridiron remains committed to supporting WHS Football through alternative fundraising efforts, volunteer service, and continued community involvement. Stay tuned for announcements on the Wakulla Gridiron website and Facebook page.

Thank you to our sponsors, families, alumni, volunteers, and supporters for your continued encouragement and belief in the Wakulla Gridiron Club and Wakulla Football.  GO WAR EAGLES!
